Role Overview

Join us full-time in Bonn as an Associate Data Scientist AI. This position is best suited for curious and proactive recent graduates eager to apply their academic background in AI, data science, or related quantitative fields to tackle complex real-world challenges. You will collaborate closely with business units and consulting teams to help design, develop, and integrate AI-driven solutions that provide measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist business stakeholders in adopting AI technologies by explaining features clearly, incorporating user feedback, and supporting ongoing refinement.
• Contribute to designing the data and retrieval layers, including setting up data loaders, embeddings, caching mechanisms, and grounding under senior mentorship.
• Support building scalable AI architectures to ensure solutions can be efficiently deployed at scale.
• Participate in preparing, testing, and rolling out new AI features; monitor their performance and key metrics such as responsiveness, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Help conduct thorough offline and online evaluations, safety assessments, red teaming, and implement compliance guardrails for privacy and security.
• Create accessible demos, instructional materials, and modular components like UIs, notebooks, and playbooks to facilitate user onboarding.
• Take part in ideation workshops, contribute to prototyping, and present insights in a structured and understandable way.
• Collaborate extensively with Data Engineers, Platform Engineers, Product Managers, and senior AI scientists or machine learning engineers to develop your expertise.

Qualifications and Skills

• A university degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative or technical discipline. Additional qualifications in business, management, or economics are advantageous.
• Strong interest in solving business challenges and translating them into effective technical AI solutions.
• Excellent proficiency in English, including verbal and written communication, capable of discussing technical aspects with non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficient programming skills in Python or R, solid command of SQL, and familiarity with additional languages such as Java are a plus. Experience with software best practices including version control, testing, and code review is expected.
• Hands-on experience in developing backend services or data pipelines that integrate machine learning or large language model components.
• Good understanding of retrieval augmented generation (RAG), agent orchestration, and applied AI concepts.
• Fundamental knowledge of machine learning, statistical analysis, and mathematical optimization techniques.
• Practical experience analyzing complex datasets and building analytical or AI-based models along with a strong motivation for AI innovation.
• Some prior involvement in strategic or cross-functional projects within a corporate environment through internships or similar engagements.
• A curious mindset, eagerness to learn and grow, strong problem-solving skills, results-driven attitude, and a collaborative, positive work ethic.
• A self-starter with integrity, proactive approach, and commitment to teamwork and organizational loyalty.
