Role Impact and Responsibilities

The Assistant Designer will be actively involved in various facets of the design process and team collaboration:

• Design Process (50%): Acquire skills in sketching detailed garment silhouttes, understanding garment construction, fabrics, color balancing, and development. Contribute to line development by building color palettes, conducting trend and market analysis, maintaining line sheets, developing design cards, and editing product details through the design review process impacting product commercialization. Participate in fit sessions by creating and updating design cards, taking part in fittings with the technical team, and managing fit adjustments.
• Systems, Calendar, and Processes (30%): Master Adobe Illustrator for sketching silhouettes and building line sheets. Learn design tools such as Miro, PLM, and Vibe. Understand and adhere to project calendars to meet deadlines. Support the team by preparing materials like print files, samples, and swatches for creative and market sample reviews.
• Collaboration and Communication (20%): Proactively anticipate tasks, resolve issues independently, and maintain strong communication with leaders and colleagues. Build relationships across cross-functional teams and contribute during Cross-Functional Team (CFT) meetings. Demonstrate adherence to company culture, values, and guiding principles while adapting constructively to changes and challenges.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
• Basic understanding of garment construction, silhouettes, sewing methods, fabrics, and trims.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Capable time management coupled with creative problem-solving talents.
• Curious mindset with strong communication and analytical skill set.
• Ability to thrive in a creative, collaborative, and dynamic work atmosphere.
• Experience analyzing and interpreting market trends relevant to Carter’s brands, demonstrated with a professional portfolio.
• An acute aesthetic sensibility and capacity to translate creative trends for Carter’s brand.
• Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management software is preferred.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or a related discipline.
• Between zero and three years of experience in apparel design, preferably children’s clothing.
