Role Overview

Stitch Fix is looking for a detail-focused Assistant Buyer to support the Women’s Tops team. This position sits within the Women’s Knits & Sweaters category for Market Brands and works closely with Planning, Styling, Marketing, and other partners to support buying, planning, and assortment strategy. The role is responsible for a defined part of the business, using client feedback, sales performance, and market insights to shape seasonal line plans and improve inventory outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a defined segment of the Women’s Knits and Sweaters Tops business, especially across Market brands, while building and executing merchandising and financial plans that support category goals.
  • Create and refine seasonal line plans and product assortments for both market and private labels, and present recommendations to leaders and partner teams to secure alignment.
  • Review sales, inventory, and client response data on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly cadence to help manage open-to-buy planning with the Planning team.
  • Oversee the vendor mix strategically by negotiating pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers to support margin, product quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Track market movement and competitor activity continuously to identify trends, potential risks, and fresh opportunities relevant to Stitch Fix clients.
  • Use AI tools and digital systems to streamline tasks such as summarizing feedback, drafting vendor communication, and supporting market research.
  • Work in common productivity and internal systems, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, advanced Excel, and inventory/PLM tools.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in retail buying or merchandising; women’s apparel or tops experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of retail math, commercial metrics, financial planning, and the full product lifecycle.
  • Experience in market buying, including managing multiple vendors and supporting negotiation efforts tied to margin and AUC.
  • A practical, solution-oriented mindset with the confidence to take measured, data-backed risks in a dynamic setting.
  • Ability to recognize trends quickly and respond with sound product decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present clearly to leadership and work well in a feedback-driven culture.
  • High attention to detail, strong organization, and proven time-management skills in a busy, nuanced environment.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, especially Excel, plus familiarity with data tools that support buying decisions.
  • Ability to sit for long periods, work on a computer or office equipment, communicate effectively, and travel up to 30% of the time.

  • Advanced negotiation capability and experience improving vendor matrix performance.
  • Exposure to AI-based retail forecasting or trend prediction tools.
  • A positive, adaptable attitude with motivation to take on challenging work.
