Role Overview
An Australian construction team is hiring an experienced Architectural Drafter / Designer to work remotely from anywhere. The role focuses on producing precise architectural and construction drawings for residential and light commercial projects, while collaborating with project managers, engineers, and estimators to deliver documentation that is ready for construction.
Key Duties
- Create architectural drawings and construction documents from sketches, marked-up files, engineering details, and project briefs.
- Develop detailed floor plans, elevations, sections, framing drawings, and other construction-ready plans.
- Update and refine drawings as the design and build process evolves.
- Check that all documents align with Australian building codes, NCC requirements, and project-specific instructions.
- Work with project managers, engineers, estimators, and other team members to maintain design accuracy.
- Keep drawing logs, revision records, and project files well organized.
- Read and interpret architectural plans, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Support the preparation of complete documentation packages for residential and light commercial work.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate has prior experience as an Architectural Drafter, Building Designer, or Architectural Technician and is confident using AutoCAD or similar drafting tools. Strong knowledge of drafting standards, construction documentation, and the ability to understand sketches, engineering drawings, and technical instructions are essential. The role also calls for excellent attention to detail, clear written and spoken English, self-direction in a remote setup, and access to a reliable computer, stable internet, and a dedicated workspace.
Preferred Background
Experience on Australian construction projects is highly valued, along with familiarity with the Australian National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards. Background in residential and/or light commercial construction is also an advantage.
Additional Knowledge and Capabilities
Useful experience includes structural timber framing, facade systems, and light gauge steel framing (LGSF/LSF). The role also benefits from 2D construction documentation experience, understanding of construction quality procedures and material take-offs, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities are important, and a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, Building Design, or a related field is considered an advantage.
