Job description

About Us

We are a sustainability-driven organization dedicated to advancing responsible, efficient, and tech-enabled aquaculture operations. Our teams, spanning aquaculture, marine biology, veterinary science, engineering, environmental management, and more, collaborate to promote healthy aquatic production, environmental care, operational excellence, and ongoing food security.

Role Overview

We are in search of an experienced Aquaculture Manager to guide aquaculture production strategies, oversee aquatic animal health, manage farm operations, water quality, biosecurity, nutrition, sustainability, and technology innovation. The successful candidate will lead production plans, optimize growing environments, mitigate operational risks, and ensure aquaculture practices meet standards for productivity, quality, environmental protection, animal welfare, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute aquaculture strategies, production schedules, operational protocols, technology plans, and long-term development aligned with company goals.
  • Oversee comprehensive aquaculture operations including hatchery, nursery, grow-out systems, feeding, stocking, harvesting, grading, biomass, and production timing.
  • Create production plans for aquatic species considering biological performance, market demands, environmental factors, facility resources, and capacities.
  • Continuously monitor water quality factors such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, turbidity, alkalinity and specific indicators per species.
  • Implement and sustain biosecurity measures involving disease prevention, quarantine procedures, stock movement control, sanitation, visitor regulation, equipment hygiene, pathogen surveillance, and emergency protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with experts across marine biology, veterinary services, nutrition, engineering, quality control, supply chain, sales, and leadership teams.
  • Lead aquatic animal health programs focusing on disease surveillance, diagnostics, vaccination, treatments, mortality analysis, welfare monitoring and record maintenance.
  • Design feeding and nutrition strategies, improve feed conversion rates, and advance feeding automation with aquaculture nutrition specialists.
  • Manage infrastructure including tanks, ponds, cages, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), aeration, pumps, filtration, oxygenation and water treatment technologies.
  • Track KPIs such as survival and growth rates, feed conversion ratios, biomass, stocking density, mortality, yield, water quality, energy usage, costs, and harvest success.
  • Conduct audits, production assessments, mortality investigations, root cause analyses, facility inspections, and lead continual improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to UAE regulations covering aquaculture, fisheries, environment, food safety, animal health, water, occupational safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain partnerships with hatcheries, feed producers, veterinary and lab services, equipment and technology suppliers, research institutes, regulators, seafood processors, distributors and aquaculture collaborators.
  • Manage budgets related to feed, equipment, veterinary support, labs, infrastructure, tech platforms, consulting, and operations.
  • Promote digital transformation using AI-assisted forecasting, automated feeding, computer vision, predictive health models, water sensors, biomass estimation, farm management software, and IoT solutions.
  • Utilize aquaculture management software, water-quality sensors, automated feeders, dissolved oxygen monitors, biomass imaging, RAS control systems, Microsoft 365, Power BI, Tableau, lab information systems and analytics tools.
  • Develop environmental programs addressing water discharge, nutrient and waste management, energy efficiency, biodiversity, responsible feed sourcing, resource conservation, and ecosystem protection.
  • Formulate emergency response plans for disease outbreaks, oxygen shortages, equipment failures, water deterioration, adverse weather, mass deaths, power outages and other risks.
  • Prepare executive-level reports on production, biological performance, water quality, health, sustainability, investments, operations, and strategic advice.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor multidisciplinary teams including technicians, supervisors, hatchery experts, animal health professionals and coordinators while fostering welfare, science-based management, safety, sustainability, accountability, and ongoing enhancement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Environmental Science or related fields.
  • Master's degree in related subjects like Aquaculture, Fisheries, Marine Biology, Animal Health, Environmental Management or Sustainable Food Systems is highly preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications in Aquaculture, Animal Health, HACCP, Food Safety, Environmental Management or Biosecurity are desirable.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in aquaculture production, fish/shrimp farming, hatchery management, aquatic health or similar roles.
  • At least two years' leadership experience managing aquaculture facilities, teams, RAS or marine farms preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aquaculture biology, animal health, water quality, nutrition, stocking density, biosecurity, hatchery and grow-out systems, harvesting and regulatory planning.
  • Experience with RAS technology, monitoring systems, automated feeders, water sensors, biomass estimation, farm software, Microsoft Office, Power BI, Tableau and analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered aquaculture, computer vision, predictive disease detection, digital twins, IoT monitoring, remote farm management and advanced environmental analytics is a strong advantage.
  • Strong leadership qualities with analytical, communication, stakeholder management, budgeting, problem-solving, biosecurity and risk management skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple aquaculture initiatives balancing animal health, production goals, water quality, environmental sustainability, safety, compliance, costs, technology investments and market needs in a remote work setup.
  • Availability for occasional travel for farm inspections, production reviews, supplier meetings, research, regulatory work, conferences and strategy sessions.

What We Offer

  • Fully remote position with flexible collaboration across international teams in aquaculture, marine science, engineering, nutrition, operations and commerce.
  • Attractive salary with performance-related incentives.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness coverage.
  • Opportunities for professional development and leadership growth in aquaculture management.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge precision aquaculture technologies including AI analytics, automated feeding, advanced RAS, health monitoring and IoT systems.
  • A collaborative culture devoted to animal welfare, scientific rigor, food security, environmental stewardship, operational efficiency and continuous progress.
  • Chance to contribute to responsible aquaculture by integrating biological knowledge, modern technology, sustainable methods and disciplined operational management.
