Role Overview
We are offering a part-time position for an Animal Care Attendant at our Gold Coast Rehoming Centre. This role is integral to maintaining the highest welfare standards for our animals, including dogs, cats, and small pets. The ideal candidate is a confident animal handler passionate about exceptional animal care and customer service, supporting our mission to keep pets and people together.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to ensure excellent care for animals under our shelter.
- Sanitize and maintain animal living spaces following strict quarantine and disease control protocols.
- Administer routine veterinary medication and treatments effectively as part of animal care.
- Implement enrichment activities and behavioral management programs to improve animal welfare.
- Manage impounding procedures and assist in reuniting lost animals with their owners.
- Provide outstanding customer service during pet meet and greets and adoption processes.
- Accurately update animal and owner records using digital record-keeping systems with strong attention to detail.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Prior professional experience handling dogs and cats with strong animal care knowledge.
- Ability to interpret animal body language and communicate effectively with animals and humans alike.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working both collaboratively and independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and digital data management systems.
- Willingness to work under a seven-day rotating roster, including weekends, public holidays, and some finishing at 5pm.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Current National Police Clearance Certificate.
- Certificate III or similar qualifications in Animal Studies, Companion Animals, Dog Training, or animal behavior are advantageous.

This position is part-time and follows the Animal Care Award rate, with casual wages ranging between $28.24 and $29.45 per hour. It requires onsite attendance at the Coombabah location in Queensland. The role supports zero euthanasia goals and innovative community animal welfare programs such as community vet clinics, support for seniors, and desexing initiatives.
