Role Overview

Amid a substantial AI evolution transforming how we work and meet customer demands, we seek an AI Architect to establish and drive the technical strategy behind our AI-enabled solutions. This pivotal role requires you to design comprehensive, scalable, secure, and production-grade AI architectures. You'll translate complex business needs into solid architectural frameworks using the latest cloud technologies, large language models, and innovative AI agent patterns.

Bringing a strong background in software engineering and practical AI experience, you will oversee engineering teams, assess and choose appropriate technologies, define architectural standards, and ensure robust AI solutions. As part of the Digital Engineering leadership, you will influence multiple project streams and shape the future of AI capabilities within Datacom.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the full technical architecture for AI solutions across various client projects.
• Evaluate, select, and standardize AI technologies, tools, frameworks, and platforms.
• Create reference architectures, design patterns, and best practice guidelines for AI delivery.
• Lead architecture reviews and provide governance support across delivery teams.
• Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and engineering leads to convert business requirements into scalable designs.
• Architect data systems focusing on ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval suitable for AI workloads.
• Advocate and implement engineering standards covering AI quality, testing, security, and monitoring.
• Make strategic build-versus-buy decisions and manage supplier and partner technology relationships.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams in AI architecture and best practices.
• Stay informed on fast-changing AI trends and bring practical insights to the organisation.
• Present architectural visions and strategies to leadership and customers.

Required Expertise and Skills

• Deep knowledge of agentic AI and multi-agent orchestration techniques including tools, planning, reflection, and chain-of-thought processes.
• Develop AI evaluation frameworks with appropriate metrics, benchmarks, and quality assurance for non-deterministic AI systems.
• Advanced skills in prompt engineering, management, and security measures like injection prevention and guardrails.
• Experience ensuring reliable model deployment, GPU optimization, and cost-effective inference methodologies.
• Capability to design end-to-end solutions covering frontend, backend, data, and AI layers.
• Creation and documentation of architectural decisions, reference models, and technical design artifacts.
• Mastery of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, microservices, and AI data architecture including modeling, pipelines, and governance.
• Design of robust API patterns (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) for AI service integration.
• Incorporating security practices such as threat modeling, responsible AI, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.
• Expertise with major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and their AI-managed services (Bedrock, SageMaker, Vertex AI, Azure OpenAI).
• Experience with serverless and container technologies like ECS/EKS, Cloud Run, Lambda.
• Building vector search infrastructures (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, OpenSearch).
• Implementing Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, CDK, Pulumi, coupled with GitOps practices.
• Focus on AI financial operations and cost optimization strategies.
• Proficiency in Python for prototypes, code review, and critical technical evaluations.
• Use of TypeScript/JavaScript for full-stack system design.
• Familiarity with AI frameworks such as Semantic Kernel and AgentCore.
• Experience with AI observability solutions including tracing, logging, monitoring, and drift detection.
• Leadership capabilities including mentoring teams, conducting architecture reviews, workshops, and governance.
• Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
