About Underwater Robotics Ltd.
Underwater Robotics Ltd., based in North Vancouver, British Columbia, specializes in developing AI-powered autonomous underwater vehicles designed for subsea inspection, monitoring, and data interpretation. Their advanced technology integrates machine learning, computer vision, underwater sensors, and autonomous decision-making systems.
Position Overview
We are looking for an AI and Data Scientist to create sophisticated machine learning models and data management systems to enhance autonomous underwater operations. The position emphasizes computer vision, anomaly detection, sensor data processing, model training, simulation, and validating system performance. The selected individual will collaborate closely with software engineers, robotics experts, and the founding team.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop AI and machine learning solutions tailored for underwater inspection tasks.
- Create computer vision frameworks to detect corrosion, cracks, structural faults, and other abnormalities.
- Organize and handle diverse datasets including images, videos, sonar data, telemetry, and mission logs.
- Train and refine models to perform effectively under challenging conditions like low-light and poor visibility.
- Assist in advancing autonomous navigation and decision-making capabilities.
- Integrate AI algorithms with embedded onboard systems and cloud platforms.
- Document datasets, experimental procedures, positive outcomes, and model constraints meticulously.
- Contribute to simulation environments, controlled testing, and future real-world validations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant disciplines.
- Proficiency in Python with practical experience using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent AI frameworks.
- Background in computer vision, deep learning methodologies, anomaly detection, or handling sensor data.
- Knowledge of data processing techniques, model validation strategies, and performance measurement approaches.
- Strong problem-solving, research capabilities, effective communication, and thorough documentation skills.
- Experience with robotics systems, Robot Operating System (ROS or ROS2), reinforcement learning methods, simulation tools, deploying models at the edge, sonar data analysis, MLOps practices, or NVIDIA Jetson platforms is advantageous.
Reporting Structure
The AI and Data Scientist will initially report to the Chief Executive Officer and later transition to reporting to the Product Manager as the organization expands.
