Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Aged Care Worker to join our team. This role focuses on delivering respectful, person-centered support to elderly individuals in various care settings, enhancing their quality of life through assistance with daily tasks, personal care, mobility, and social activities. Collaboration with healthcare professionals, families, and care staff is essential to provide tailored and safe care.
Key Duties
- Deliver compassionate, respectful care tailored to older adults in residential and community environments.
- Assist with personal hygiene such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and continence management.
- Support mobility needs, including safe transfers and use of equipment as per care plans.
- Help with meal preparation, serving food, ensuring hydration, and monitoring dietary needs when required.
- Encourage independence and maintain dignity while assisting with everyday living activities.
- Provide companionship, promoting engagement in social, recreational, cultural, and community occasions.
- Observe and report any physical, emotional, or behavioral changes to relevant nursing or healthcare staff.
- Adhere to individualized care plans and maintain accurate records of care provided.
- Assist with medication support following organizational guidelines and scope of practice.
- Ensure the environment is clean, safe, and welcoming for clients and residents.
- Follow infection control and workplace safety standards diligently.
- Maintain professional communication with residents, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support the maintenance of meaningful routines, relationships, and cultural preferences of clients.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents or changes in care requirements and escalate concerns as necessary.
- Participate in initiatives to improve the quality of care and client satisfaction.
Qualifications and Skills
- Previous experience in aged care, disability or community support roles is advantageous.
- Knowledge of person-centered care principles, emphasizing dignity, privacy, and independence.
- Compassionate, patient, respectful, and empathetic demeanor towards older people.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clients and healthcare teams.
- Capability to assist with personal care, mobility, and daily living activities with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Sharp observational skills with the ability to note and report changes in client wellbeing.
- Ability to follow care plans, workplace procedures, and safely adhere to health and infection control policies.
- Good organizational and time management abilities to multitask care duties.
- Independent worker who collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Reliable, professional attitude with a commitment to quality care delivery.
- Emotional resilience with strict adherence to confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Dedication to upholding clients' rights, choices, and independence.
- Preferred qualifications include Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community) or equivalent.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, along with relevant screening checks, are advantageous or required depending on position.
