Role Summary

The Vice President, Project Management is a senior executive responsible for leading the Project Management Office and ensuring strategic programs are planned, governed, and delivered successfully. The role focuses on portfolio oversight, execution discipline, resource efficiency, and alignment of projects with enterprise goals.

This leader works closely with senior executives to set priorities, manage delivery risk, define project standards, and support organizational growth, operational excellence, and digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

• Head the enterprise PMO and oversee the full project portfolio.
• Define governance structures, delivery methods, and project management best practices.
• Rank initiatives based on business value, strategic importance, and resource availability.
• Ensure programs are completed on time, within scope, and within approved budgets.
• Provide senior-level oversight for large, cross-functional, and high-impact programs.
• Work with executive leadership to align project portfolios with corporate strategy.
• Convert strategic goals into practical project roadmaps and execution plans.
• Support mergers and acquisitions, digital transformation, and organizational change efforts.
• Track portfolio performance and help ensure measurable business value is achieved.
• Set and enforce governance policies, reporting standards, and control processes.
• Identify delivery risks and put mitigation actions in place.
• Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory obligations, and quality requirements.
• Lead project reviews, audits, and executive reporting cycles.
• Resolve escalated issues and remove barriers affecting delivery.
• Manage project budgets, capital spending, and resource deployment.
• Improve investment efficiency to maximize return on investment.
• Forecast project cost, staffing needs, and delivery timelines.
• Monitor financial outcomes across the project portfolio.
• Use internal and external resources effectively.
• Lead, coach, and develop directors, program managers, project managers, and PMO personnel.
• Build a strong-performing project management function.
• Set performance goals, development plans, and succession strategies.
• Encourage collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Promote project management excellence across business units.
• Act as the main executive contact for major strategic initiatives.
• Present portfolio updates and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board.
• Develop strong working relationships with business leaders, customers, vendors, and external partners.
• Support executive decisions through clear reporting and data analysis.
• Manage stakeholder expectations across the project lifecycle.
• Continuously improve project delivery methods and operational processes.
• Implement PM tools, dashboards, and portfolio management systems.
• Support workflow automation, enterprise technology rollouts, and digital transformation efforts.
• Standardize delivery practices across departments and regions.
• Use analytics to strengthen project performance and decision-making.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
• An MBA or master’s degree is preferred.
• PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, or an equivalent project management certification is preferred.
• 18 or more years of progressive experience in project or program management.
• 15 or more years of senior leadership experience managing enterprise PMOs or large project portfolios.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver complex strategic initiatives across multiple functions.
