The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) is a national leader in educator preparation. Its work centers on advocacy, innovation, research, and professional learning to strengthen educator preparation programs and advance the field across the United States.

AACTE is committed to creating meaningful growth opportunities for educators, faculty, deans, and academic leaders so they can connect, develop, and lead meaningful change in educator preparation.

Position Overview

AACTE is hiring a strategic, innovative, and highly collaborative leader to guide its Learning Design & Program Development function as Vice President. This person will shape the direction, design, and growth of the organization’s professional learning portfolio so that it continues to deliver strong value to members and support key association priorities.

The portfolio includes conference programming, leadership development initiatives, webinars, online learning, communities of practice, and new credentialing offerings. The role is well suited to someone who is energized by adult learning, innovation, and building programs that help educators and institutions thrive in a rapidly evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic direction for AACTE’s professional learning and leadership development portfolio.
  • Create and grow engaging learning experiences delivered in face-to-face, virtual, and blended formats.
  • Lead the development of certificates, microcredentials, and related recognition pathways.
  • Identify and apply new technologies and emerging trends that improve learner engagement and program outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with members, subject-matter experts, consultants, and strategic partners.
  • Work across teams to ensure learning initiatives support member needs and broader organizational objectives.
  • Manage planning processes, budgets, performance measures, and ongoing improvement efforts for programs.

Candidate Profile

AACTE is looking for someone with a master’s degree, with a doctorate preferred, and substantial leadership experience in professional learning, higher education, educator preparation, associations, or a similar environment.

The ideal candidate has a proven record of creating and overseeing professional learning, leadership development, academic, or continuing education programs, along with experience leading cross-functional work, managing budgets, and forming strategic partnerships.

Strong communication, relationship-building, collaboration, and project management abilities are essential, along with a forward-looking mindset.

The role provides an opportunity to help shape the future of professional learning and leadership development for educator preparation professionals nationwide.
