About the Role and Organisation

This opportunity is for an experienced User Researcher to join the Cyber Improvement Programme (CIP) within the Cyber Operations Directorate at NHS England. The CIP is a national initiative focused on enhancing cyber resilience throughout the health and social care sectors, aiming to build a system resistant to cyber attacks by 2030, thereby improving safety for patients and service users through effective cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive user research projects, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods across all stages including planning, survey creation, discussion guide development, participant recruitment, interview moderation, data analysis, and synthesizing insights.
  • Offer expert user research support in the design, implementation, and ongoing refinement of digital and non-digital services, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to produce actionable insights influencing product strategies, service enhancements, and operational choices.
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders such as senior clinical, operational, and policy professionals, skillfully managing complex or conflicting demands with professionalism, empathy, and clear communication, especially when involving vulnerable participant groups.
  • Operate independently with flexibility to manage multiple priorities, attend travel-required research and meetings, and seek guidance from leadership as appropriate.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail when reviewing complex documents, interpreting research data, and delivering high-quality reports and outputs.

Additional Information

NHS England's staff bring expertise from a wide variety of sectors including clinical operations, commissioning, technology, data science, cybersecurity, software engineering, education, and commerce to support the delivery of high-quality NHS services.

Following a government announcement, NHS England is expected to integrate fully into the Department of Health and Social Care by 2025. NHS employees joining through this process will have Inter Authority Transfers facilitated through the Electronic Staff Record system, supporting smooth onboarding. Time in office is expected to be about 40% on average. Appointments from outside the NHS usually start at the base pay band. Visa sponsorship is not available for these positions.
