Transportation Specialist - Japan Outbound Network Operations

About the Role

The Network Operations Center (NOC) is a key hub overseeing Transportation Execution within Amazon's supply chain network across regions including North America, India, and Europe. It ensures the timely and hassle-free pick-up and delivery of freight between vendors, Amazon fulfillment centers (FCs), and carrier hubs. The NOC addresses exceptions promptly, keeping all involved parties informed, while also analyzing trends to automate and improve network processes.

The NOC plays a crucial role in maintaining smooth transportation operations, directly impacting Amazon’s customer service and delivery timeliness.

Role Overview

The Transportation Operations Specialist at NOC acts as the conduit between various stakeholders such as carriers, vendors, and Amazon internal teams. The specialist addresses potential issues affecting customer experience and business continuity. This role is based in India and supports Amazon Japan operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with external partners (carriers, vendors, suppliers) and internal departments including retail, finance, software support, and fulfillment centers.
• Extract and analyze data from databases using tools like Excel, Access, SQL, and other data management systems to perform reporting and support decision-making.
• Develop or understand performance metrics to drive business outcomes.
• Gather and define business and functional requirements for technology teams enhancing NOC systems and tools.
• Rapidly assess business impact of data trends and make informed decisions.
• Escalate issues and variances systematically to relevant teams and ensure resolution follow-through.
• Work efficiently within strict timelines to meet critical business requirements, tracking activities performed.
• Prepare and deliver clear written and verbal communications, including weekly narrative reports and presentations of findings and variances.
• Operate efficiently within a 24/7 working environment, including night shifts, to ensure real-time customer experience.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
• Business-level communication skills in Japanese with JLPT N2 or N1 certification are mandatory.

Preferred Attributes

• Experience managing global stakeholder relationships.
• Additional experience in Japanese business communication (N2+ level).
