Overview
Join Tata Consultancy Services as a Transmission L2 Engineer supporting telecom transmission networks remotely from Doha, Qatar. This full-time role involves advanced troubleshooting, incident management, and network performance optimization across SDH, DWDM, OTN, and microwave systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct deep technical investigations and fault isolation on transmission networks, covering fiber breaks, router dependencies, optical power issues, and synchronization faults.
- Manage and resolve complex incidents escalated from Level 1, coordinating restoration efforts with fiber, field, power, access/backhaul, IP/MPLS, and OEM support teams to meet SLA and MTTR targets.
- Perform root cause analyses for major repeated incidents, discerning causes such as fiber cuts, equipment or card failures, configuration errors, optical degradation, and power issues, then publish findings with corrective/preventive plans.
- Support planned network changes, including link migration, device or card replacement, ring reconfiguration, path rerouting, and software upgrades, ensuring risk mitigation with rollback readiness.
- Analyze performance metrics for transmission stability, error trends, optical levels, latency, and outage recurrence, recommending preventive measures for reliability improvement.
- Coordinate vendor interactions for hardware/software issues, managing RMA, technical support cases, and escalations to ensure timely resolution.
- Document incident reports, technical summaries, SOPs, and knowledge updates; mentor Level 1 teams and disseminate lessons from incident investigations.
- Participate in major incident reviews, drive adherence to operational governance standards such as SLA and MTTR, and promote continuous process enhancements.
Required Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of telecom transmission technologies including SDH, DWDM, OTN, microwave links, fiber transport, Ethernet backhaul, and fundamentals of MPLS transport.
- Proficiency in analyzing transmission faults, path switching, and network topology issues using EMS/NMS tools.
- Ability to interpret path protection ring failures, optical signal quality degradation, multiplexer faults, and cross-connect dependencies.
- Experience performing service impact assessments and restoration strategies.
