Operations Team

ARTC’s Operations team supports significant national supply chains, overseeing an 8,500km network across five states transporting bulk commodities, passenger and general freight, including diverse consumer goods for import/export. The team operates in complex environments, including busy rail corridors, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable service delivery for customers, stakeholders, and communities.

Role Overview

This Carpentry role within ARTC involves maintaining and supporting vital rail infrastructure on the interstate rail network. Reporting to the Team Leader Infrastructure Support, you will apply your carpentry expertise on various infrastructure maintenance, repair, and construction tasks, operate machinery, and assist with rail and track upkeep as part of a collaborative field crew.

The role requires working on a 14 days on, 7 days off cycle, with about 90% of the time spent away from home, with accommodation provided during travel periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out carpentry trade activities related to maintenance, repair, and construction across ARTC infrastructure.
• Perform general infrastructure upkeep and support rail and track maintenance duties.
• Safely operate machinery, vehicles, tools, and equipment relevant to the role.
• Conduct safety inspections and maintain comprehensive records.
• Ensure the safe and reliable operation of civil infrastructure throughout the corridor.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and other ARTC worksites.
• Identify, report hazards, incidents, and injuries inline with ARTC's protocols.
• Adhere strictly to ARTC's Safety Management and Environmental Management Systems.
• Contribute actively to fostering a strong safety culture and ARTC's No Harm commitment.

Candidate Requirements

• Possess a formal trade qualification in Carpentry (mandatory).
• Experience or skills in concrete work considered advantageous.
• Hold a current Australian driver’s license with the ability to operate manual vehicles.
• Completion of Construction Industry White Card.
• Dedicated focus on maintaining safety and safe work practices.
• Ability to function effectively within a field-based team setting.
• Good verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Basic proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
• Willingness and capacity to engage in physical, hands-on work.

Previous experience in the rail sector or track maintenance and possession of Rail Industry Worker competencies will be highly regarded.
