Role Overview
The Sweeper Cum Housekeeper is entrusted with maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the institute premises including rooms, corridors, washrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces. This role ensures a safe, neat, and organized environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Daily Tasks
- Perform sweeping and mopping of all rooms before working hours begin.
- Dust and clean furniture such as tables, chairs, desks, shelves, and windowsills.
- Wipe down doors, door handles, switchboards, and window panes.
- Empty dustbins regularly and replace garbage liners as needed.
- Sort waste following the institute's waste segregation policies.
- Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, basins, mirrors, taps, and floors at least twice each day.
- Refill soap dispensers, toilet paper, and hand towels in washrooms.
- Clean corridors, lobby areas, reception, and waiting spaces by sweeping and mopping.
- Maintain staircases, handrails, landings, and remove cobwebs from ceilings, fans, and light fixtures.
- Wipe classroom boards and podiums.
- Sanitize drinking water areas and surroundings.
- Ensure all floors are dry at all times to prevent accidents.
Outdoor Cleaning Duties
- Sweep entrance areas, pathways, verandas, and parking lots.
- Gather and dispose of debris such as leaves and litter.
- Keep the surroundings of the building clean, including boundary zones.
- Clear drains and maintain free-flowing water outlets.
Periodic Cleaning Responsibilities
- Undertake deep cleaning of rooms once weekly.
- Wash windows, glass partitions, and grills.
- Dust ceiling fans, tube lights, and air vents regularly.
- Clean curtains, blinds, and notice boards as per schedule.
- Polish furniture when necessary.
- Remove any stains from walls, floors, and furniture surfaces.
- Assist in pest control and sanitizing activities.
Housekeeping Tasks
- Neatly arrange furniture after cleaning activities.
- Ensure classrooms and offices are prepared before the start of work hours.
- Report any damages to furniture, plumbing, fittings, or electrical elements.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and communicate shortages.
- Handle cleaning equipment responsibly and store them correctly.
- Provide support during institutional functions by cleaning and arranging venues before and after events.
Hygiene and Safety Measures
- Wear designated uniform along with gloves, masks, and other safety gear.
- Use cleaning chemicals cautiously following safety guidelines.
- Observe health and safety protocols strictly.
- Ensure cleaning tools do not block passageways.
- Promptly clean spills to avoid hazards.
Waste Management
- Collect waste from all rooms and common locations.
- Segregate waste into biodegradable, recyclable, and general categories.
- Dispose waste only at assigned collection sites.
- Maintain cleanliness around waste storage zones.
Discipline and Reporting
- Arrive punctually for duty.
- Follow instructions provided by the administration.
- Maintain courteous interactions with students, staff, and visitors.
- Keep a daily cleaning log if mandated.
- Carry out any other housekeeping duties assigned by authorities.
Working Schedule
The typical daily timetable for cleaning activities is as follows:
- 7:00–9:00 AM: Sweep and mop classrooms, offices, corridors.
- 9:00–10:00 AM: Clean washrooms and replenish consumables.
- 10:00–12:00 PM: Dusting, waste collection, outdoor cleaning.
- 12:00–1:00 PM: Spot cleaning and upkeep.
- 2:00–3:00 PM: Second round of washroom cleaning and inspection.
- 3:00–5:00 PM: Final cleaning, waste disposal, event assistance, and reporting.
