Position Summary

The Shift Lead plays a pivotal role in supporting the store manager by guiding the barista team to consistently deliver excellent customer experiences. Responsibilities include fostering a welcoming atmosphere, upholding high standards for coffee preparation, and promoting deep knowledge of specialty coffee. This leadership role involves managing day-to-day operations in the manager's absence, ensuring a safe, clean, and respectful work environment, acting responsibly with store assets, and exemplifying Equator's values.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspire customers and staff by sharing enthusiasm and expertise about specialty coffee
• Lead the team in crafting and serving premium handcrafted beverages
• Provide consistent coaching on drink quality and product knowledge
• Plan staff scheduling and oversee deployment during shifts
• Maintain composure, professionalism, and positivity in all situations
• Oversee cleanliness, stocking, and organization of the store environment
• Ensure all food safety regulations and company policies are followed
• Communicate effectively with the Store Manager regarding team performance and customer feedback
• Assist with inventory management and control tasks
• Serve as a role model for teamwork and decision-making in the manager's absence
• Contribute to achieving sales goals and improving profitability
• Manage opening and closing procedures for the café
• Promote the company culture by demonstrating respect, integrity, and passion

Qualifications and Requirements

• Genuine kindness, patience, and welcoming demeanor, even when multitasking
• Prior coffee experience is preferred; retail or customer service experience is required
• Strong passion for coffee and tea
• Dedication to customer-first service
• Ability to provide constructive feedback comfortably
• Eager to learn and apply new knowledge in daily work
• Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills
• Cash handling experience
• Capable of occasionally lifting and moving up to 25 pounds
• Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Must be at least 16 years old
• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid state-issued Food Handler Card must be maintained
• May occasionally work more than 40 hours per week to fulfill essential duties
