Role Overview

The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) invites applications for a permanent, full-time Service Support Officer position based at the Waterford Community Centre Young Adult Service. This 39-hour per week role is focused on assisting the Community Service Coordinator with delivering and expanding person-centered community services aligned with IWA standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Service Coordinator in implementing IWA’s Community Centre Service standards.
  • Develop, execute, and evaluate a variety of capacity building and mainstream training programmes tailored to IWA members’ needs.
  • Identify opportunities, partnering with IWA members to enhance their social inclusion and independence within their communities.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation of service operations as directed.
  • Provide support, personal care, and accompany members on annual holidays, outings, social and day trips.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies to protect children and adults from abuse or harm.
  • Manage daily administrative tasks and maintain accurate records related to projects and services.
  • Mentor and support IWA staff to ensure compliance with association standards and promote health and safety best practices in the community centre.
  • Foster inclusion and community links supporting people with disabilities.
  • Promote awareness of IWA and positive attitudes towards disability within the local community.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Service Coordinator.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must hold a Level 6 or higher qualification such as QQI Supervisory Management Skills, BA in Social Care, or equivalent credentials (e.g., Occupational Therapist, Community Work, General Management). Previous experience in training or facilitation is required.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong operational decision-making and problem-solving capabilities, excellent computer and administrative proficiency (Microsoft Office, database management), knowledge of Easi Tool and New Direction guidelines, and leadership experience are essential. Awareness of disability needs and experience working with people with disabilities is desirable. Experience with quality systems is advantageous.

Other Requirements: A full category B driving license is mandatory as driving IWA transport may be required.
