Overview

Stats NZ is seeking dedicated individuals for roles based in Wellington or Christchurch within the Complex Business & Processing Support Unit involving a range of financial, economic, and social data topics. These positions focus on enhancing and refining data through processes like loading, editing, validating, and classifying to prepare data for statistical use, contributing directly to informed decision-making across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Role Variants

• Senior Statistical & Data Technician: 1 permanent and 1 fixed term until December 2026
• Statistical & Data Technician: 1 permanent, part-time (20 hours per week)

Key Responsibilities

• Transform raw data into a more usable form for statistical production through technical processes
• Engage in data sourcing, editing, classification, validation, and quality checking
• For Senior roles: handle advanced data validation tasks, oversee delivery of processed data, improve processing practices, and mentor junior staff

Candidate Profile

• Enthusiastic about problem-solving, process enhancement, and innovation
• Experience with financial account data or background in accounting desirable
• Strong organizational skills combined with meticulous attention to data detail and ability to handle repetitive processes
• Effective time management and capability to meet tight deadlines while adapting to new information
• Proficient with data processing systems and quick to master new technologies
• Team-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to explain work clearly
• Commitment to continuous learning and cultural competence
• Integrity and responsibility in work, motivation to deliver valuable outcomes, and openness to collaboration

Compensation

• Statistical & Data Technician: NZD 57,403 to 63,080 plus KiwiSaver
• Senior Statistical & Data Technician: NZD 60,148 to 70,762 plus KiwiSaver
