Senior Payments Accountant

About the Role

We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Senior Payments Accountant to oversee and manage the payment operations of our organization with precision and adherence to compliance standards. This role is crucial in ensuring all payment transactions are scrutinized, processed accurately, documented correctly, and comply with the company’s internal policies and control frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine invoices and accompanying documentation to confirm completeness and compliance with contracts and approved financial rules.
• Prepare and validate payment orders, ensuring accuracy of financial data before obtaining necessary authorization.
• Manage supplier and vendor payments, tracking due dates to guarantee prompt settlement.
• Record all payment transactions accurately within the financial systems, making sure accounting entries are correct.
• Verify operating and capital expenses to ensure they are properly classified and allocated to the right cost centers.
• Compile and review accounts payable reconciliations, monitor outstanding balances, and resolve any discrepancies through coordination with related departments.
• Collaborate with treasury to ensure enough liquidity is available prior to executing scheduled payments.
• Oversee advance payments and pending settlements to confirm timely closure and account reconciliation.
• Generate regular reports on payments, including analysis of overdue payments and suggest areas for enhancement.
• Liaise with vendors to handle payment queries, resolve discrepancies, and manage outstanding claims.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes by providing payment schedules and reconciliation information.
• Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and contribute to continuous improvement of payment process efficiency.
• Engage in automation initiatives to enhance accounts payable processes, improving data accuracy and minimizing operational mistakes.
