Senior Lead - Engagement | Kaiarataki Matua - Tuituinga

Role Overview

This permanent position reports to the Manager of Community Engagement and Insights at Stats NZ. The primary goal is to foster trust and understanding between Stats NZ and diverse community stakeholders. The successful candidate will actively engage with communities, establishing consistent touchpoints and ongoing interactions integrated within our Strategic Engagement Model, which emphasizes relationship-building to achieve organizational priorities.

Responsibilities include supporting Stats NZ's presence at major cultural events such as the ASB Polyfest and Te Matatini, facilitating community access to Stats NZ’s data products and services to help meet their informational objectives, and communicating community insights internally to influence decision-making.

The role involves contributing to the development of meaningful, intentional engagement strategies, extensive community travel, and occasional weekend work, particularly during the summer event season (February to March).

Required Experience and Skills

• Demonstrated capability in mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and practical application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles within workplace settings.
• Proficiency or strong commitment to enhancing skills in te reo Māori is highly desirable.
• Proven dedication to continuous cultural competence development and its application in professional practice.
• Experience in managing relationships or engaging with diverse community groups on varied subjects.
• Familiarity with organizing relationship-building events.
• Confidence in mapping, establishing, and maintaining robust connections with individuals from varied cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to explain data concepts effectively and introduce Stats NZ’s products and services to stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel and work occasional weekends, particularly during peak event months.
• Flexibility in scheduling engagement activities to suit community availability is advantageous.

The starting salary range for this role is $97,270 to $114,436 plus KiwiSaver contributions.
