Job Overview

The BBC World Service is seeking a Senior Digital Content Producer to join its newly formed Regional Journalism team based in Lusaka. This role contributes to the BBC's strategy of integrating newsgathering and production efforts across Africa to deliver bold and original journalism that resonates across local, regional, and global audiences. The position involves producing distinctive visual digital journalism, delivering innovative storytelling that enhances audience engagement and sets the BBC apart in a competitive digital environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and produce impactful video journalism by uncovering unique stories, fresh perspectives, and emerging trends for diverse digital platforms.
• Oversee visual storytelling from initial idea through to final production, including filming, reporting, scripting, and narrative development with strong editorial judgement.
• Establish and nurture extensive source networks to obtain exclusive content, expert insights, and deeper story access.
• Create high-quality video content swiftly for major news and breaking stories while upholding BBC editorial standards.
• Experiment with new storytelling formats, techniques, and audience engagement methods aligned with evolving digital and social media trends.
• Work closely with editors, designers, and social media teams to maximize video impact, reach, and quality across multiple platforms.
• Adopt an audience-centric approach to content creation, applying strong platform knowledge and efficient workflows to produce resonant and engaging visual stories.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrated excellence in visual storytelling and the ability to create compelling video content that captivates digital audiences.
• Exceptional editorial skills with capacity to independently develop stories, make sharp editorial decisions, and deliver quality journalism under tight deadlines.
• Experience producing multi-format content (vertical, square, horizontal videos) with keen insight into audience behavior and content performance metrics.
• Strong organizational and production planning skills managing shoots, contributors, locations, and timelines in dynamic environments.
• Solid knowledge of digital video best practices including subtitling, graphics integration, content optimization, platform algorithm awareness, and engaging audience methods.
• Understanding of editorial compliance, copyright, safety, and ethical reporting, maintaining responsibility when handling sensitive material.
• Adaptable, resilient, and solution-oriented mindset with awareness of industry trends, competitor content, and innovation opportunities.

Additional Information

This permanent, full-time position falls under BBC Job Band D and is based in Lusaka. The BBC offers flexible working arrangements, which can be discussed at the offer stage.
