Senior Data Scientist – Python, ML & Signal Processing

About the Role

DATATRONiQ is a German deep-tech startup focused on Industrial IoT and Edge AI. In this position, you will build and train machine learning models using live machine and sensor data from production environments around the world, serving customers from mid-sized manufacturers to large DAX-listed enterprises. The work centers on anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and real-time quality monitoring, where models influence whether equipment keeps running as planned or stops unexpectedly.

This role is ideal if you prefer seeing your models used in production rather than only tuning them in notebooks.

What You’ll Do

• Own the full data science lifecycle, from data exploration and feature engineering through training, validation, and deployment.
• Work with time-series data from industrial control systems, with deployment targets that may include edge gateways, on-premises servers, or cloud environments depending on the customer setup.
• Perform signal processing and feature engineering on noisy machine and sensor data coming from sources such as OPC-UA, MQTT, and MES exports.
• Prepare models for deployment by quantizing them, exporting them to ONNX, and adapting them to constrained CPU and memory environments when needed.
• Monitor and tune models in the field so they remain reliable in real production pipelines.
• Collaborate closely with data engineers and backend developers to move models beyond prototypes and into operational systems.
• Evaluate model success based on real business impact, such as fewer unplanned outages, improved output, and reduced defects, not only by offline metrics like F1 or AUC.
• Contribute to product direction and technical decisions with your own opinions and recommendations.
• Take part in code reviews, pair programming, and regular Friday show-and-tell sessions where the team shares useful tools and interesting discoveries.

What We’re Looking For

• A completed degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• At least three years of hands-on experience with Python, common ML frameworks such as PyTorch or scikit-learn, and deploying models in production settings.
• Practical experience with time-series analysis and signal processing.
• Basic MLOps knowledge, including model and data versioning, reproducible pipelines, and testing for ML code.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• The ability to justify technical choices and defend them constructively within a team.
• Nice-to-have experience with edge deployment tools such as ONNX, TensorRT, and quantization, as well as industrial protocols like OPC-UA and MQTT or LLMs for chat and agent-based tasks.

Working Style

The team is small and tightly aligned. Architecture, tooling, and test coverage are decided internally by the team. You will work mostly on-site in Stuttgart, Ulm, or Berlin on Industrial IoT projects for customers worldwide.
