About the Location
This role is based at a secluded resort on the east coast of Mauritius, set beside a lagoon with turquoise water. The property features lush surroundings, private villas with gardens and pools, golf courses, an over-water spa, dining venues, tennis courts, and a fitness center. The resort opened in October 2008 and includes 90 one-bedroom villas, 1 Presidential Suite, 45 residential villas with two to five bedrooms, 5 food and beverage venues, an off-property beach bar and restaurant, and a range of leisure facilities.
Role Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for controlling entry and exit across hotel areas under Four Seasons supervision, protecting company assets from theft, fire, and damage, and helping ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Take an active part in everyday security operations to safeguard people and property.
- Patrol the hotel interiors and exterior grounds, and investigate any suspicious activity or individuals.
- Record and handle accidents, incidents, and questionable behavior on the premises.
- Follow and enforce all security and safety policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Support preventive safety and security programs.
- Prepare objective, detailed reports covering incidents related to crime, liability, insurance, subversion, and other notable events.
- Assist staff during difficult guest or employee situations, including theft, disorderly conduct, medical emergencies, fire risks, disturbances, bomb threats, robberies, natural disasters, power failures, elevator issues, and other emergencies.
- Stay current on local laws and regulations affecting guest, patron, and employee rights.
- Help carry out the hotel fire plan, including communication center duties, command post coordination, technical equipment, and assigned staff roles.
- Support training on emergency procedures.
- Manage the key, lock, alarm, and fire protection systems.
- Make security-related recommendations to management.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and safety incidents.
- Complete additional assignments and projects as directed by management.
- Conduct safety inspections across the property.
- Provide professional VIP escorts when needed.
- Monitor and review CCTV footage as required.
- Use physical restraint when necessary and appropriate.
- Coordinate with the Fire Department as needed.
- Maintain lobby presence and observe guest or intruder activity.
- Handle life-saving tasks such as CPR, transporting injured guests or workers in wheelchairs, and carrying fire extinguishers in stairwells.
- Support miscellaneous operational tasks, including moving heavy boxes of meat or fish to carts for kitchen transport.
Communication
- Keep the Director of Security and the Assistant Manager on duty informed about any issues or concerns.
- Escalate complaints or operational problems to the Director of Security.
- Attend departmental meetings.
- Coordinate with other departments to maintain smooth communication and provide support.
Health and Safety
- Help maintain a safe workplace by spotting hazards and taking corrective action.
- Report defects in the building, plant, or equipment according to hotel procedures.
- Guide employees on safe working practices, including proper footwear, spill cleanup, and evacuation steps.
- Ensure compliance with government rules for a clean and hygienic environment.
- Respond appropriately in emergency or safety situations.
- Attend statutory fire, health, and safety training every 6 months and follow all related rules.
- Stay fully aware of the hotel fire and bomb procedures, health and safety policy, departmental food hygiene rules, C.O.S.H.H regulations, and Lead with Care guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times and follow house rules, conduct standards, fire regulations, and departmental procedures.
- Wear the issued uniform and keep a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance in line with the grooming policy.
Requirements
- Strong reading, writing, and spoken English skills are required.
- Prior experience in CPR, first aid, and firefighting is needed.
- Background in law enforcement or security work is expected.
- Ability to use WordPerfect 7 and Lotus 123 is required.
- Must present a courteous, professional manner and a strong commitment to high service standards.
- Holding an SIA license is required.
Education
The role requires reading, writing, and oral English proficiency.
Other Duties and Notes
The position may involve physically demanding support tasks, including life-saving assistance, wheelchair support for injured persons, and carrying heavy boxes of incoming meat or fish for kitchen transfer.
The role reports to the Director of Security and sits within the Security department.
