Scale Attendant

Overview

GFL Environmental Inc. is currently seeking a Scale Attendant to be part of the Swift Current team. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute positively to the environment and local community while benefiting from year-round employment and a balanced work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Weigh trucks entering and exiting the landfill or transfer station accurately.
• Register new trucks and issue appropriate permits.
• Provide precise data for customer billing and generate reports for customers and management.
• Confirm haul and disposal information for third-party truck payment processing.
• Communicate special waste disposal instructions effectively to operators and the Operations Manager.
• Keep landfill management informed about community-related news pertaining to the landfill.
• Test and verify scale accuracy on a daily basis.
• Ensure waste is disposed of correctly within designated areas by maintaining grid reports.
• Complete various environmental compliance duties as assigned.
• Participate in litter collection and site maintenance tasks.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of high school or equivalent education (GED).
• Prior experience or training in related duties ranging from one to three months is preferred.
• Customer service experience is advantageous.

Skills and Physical Abilities

• Proficient in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and interpret bar graphs.
• Capable of sitting, standing, walking, manual dexterity, as well as speaking and hearing clearly.
• Visual acuity for both close and distant objects.
• Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 10 pounds.

Working Environment

• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Exposure to moving machinery, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Workplace noise levels range from moderate to loud.
