Job description
About the Role
We are looking for a committed and proactive Safety Officer to join our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team. The successful candidate will be accountable for establishing, monitoring, and upholding workplace safety standards to maintain a safe and healthy environment within the manufacturing facility. This role requires executing safety inspections, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, fostering a robust safety culture, and aiding ongoing improvement efforts.
Educational Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
- Certifications in safety such as Diploma in Industrial Safety, Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety, NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely, or OSHA Certification are essential.
- 3 to 5 years of pertinent experience in Health, Safety & Environment in manufacturing settings.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform routine workplace safety inspections and identify unsafe behaviors or conditions.
- Ensure correct utilization and adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) norms across the plant.
- Oversee the issuance, review, and validation of Permit to Work (PTW) for hazardous operations.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions for both staff and contractors.
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents, conducting root cause analyses and implementing corrective. and preventive measures.
- Monitor contractors' safety practices to ensure alignment with company HSE policies.
- Maintain thorough records regarding safety statutory compliance, inspections, training, and incidents.
- Ensure adherence to relevant statutory regulations and internal safety protocols.
- Engage in Customer Safety Management (CSM) audits and support other audit mechanisms.
- Prepare, organize, and manage documentation necessary for CSM and various audits.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness initiatives including mock drills and evacuation procedures.
- Recommend safety enhancements to minimize operational risks and promote a zero-incident culture.
- Collaborate with management to accomplish organizational safety goals.
Technical Expertise and Knowledge
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
- Permit to Work System (PTW)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Safety considerations for Working at Heights, Confined Spaces, and Hot Work
- Electrical Safety, Fire Prevention and Fighting techniques
- Emergency Response and Evacuation protocols
- Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis methodologies
- Understanding of Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, State Factory Rules, and corporate safety policies
- Competency in MS Office tools and safety reporting documentation
