Safety Officer

Overview

The Safety Officer is tasked with fostering a secure and healthy work environment by executing, tracking, and enforcing occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and protocols. This role involves hazard identification, conducting thorough inspections, safety training facilitation, and ensuring adherence to legal and organizational safety mandates to mitigate accidents, injuries, and occupational health risks.

Primary Duties

• Implement and uphold occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and standards at the workplace.
• Carry out periodic inspections, audits, and risk evaluations to detect unsafe conditions, behaviors, or hazards, ensuring prompt corrective measures.
• Supervise adherence to local laws, company safety policies, and international safety standards.
• Conduct safety orientations, awareness programs, and training sessions for staff, contractors, and visitors.
• Analyze accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting root causes and recommending preventive actions.
• Verify the correct usage, maintenance, and accessibility of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Manage emergency preparedness through drills and fire evacuation rehearsals, maintaining first aid and firefighting equipment readiness.
• Provide management with reports on safety metrics including fire pump and alarm system statuses, highlighting issues and advocating continuous improvement measures.
• Promote a robust safety culture by encouraging safe practices and discouraging unsafe behaviors throughout the organization.

Qualifications and Experience

• Holder of a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline, with a Practitioner classification ('ممارس') from Kawader.
• Possession of recognized safety certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or IOSH is preferred.
• Between one and three years of hands-on experience in occupational health and safety, ideally within industrial or food manufacturing settings.
• In-depth understanding of local occupational health and safety regulations and Civil Defense mandates.
• Competency in risk assessments, investigating incidents, and compiling detailed reports.
• Strong communication skills with ability to engage employees and contractors at various organizational levels.
• Proficient in computer usage, including Microsoft Office applications.
