About the Role
GFL Environmental is seeking full-time Residential Waste Helpers for a permanent, year-round position in Lynchburg, VA. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys active outdoor work, steady hours, and a Monday-to-Friday schedule with weekends off.

Compensation and Schedule
- Starting pay begins at $18.00 per hour.
- Overtime is consistently available, with typical 50-hour workweeks.
- Hours worked beyond 40 each week are paid at $27.00 per hour, which is 1.5 times the base rate.
- The shift pattern runs Monday through Friday only.
- This is a stable, year-round role with no seasonal layoffs.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will support the driver and crew in collecting residential solid waste and recyclables safely and efficiently. The job involves regular outdoor activity and close coordination with the truck operator throughout the route.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Previous experience is not required, though 1 to 3 months of related work can be helpful.
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred, though not essential.
- You must meet the company’s safety-sensitive function standards.
- You should be able to read, write, and follow simple instructions with limited supervision.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- This position is performed outdoors for the entire shift.
- You need to remain active throughout the day while working along the route.
- The role requires the ability to regularly lift or move up to 65 pounds.
- You must also be able to push or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Work continues in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
