Job description

Context and Work Environment

The role of a Trading Operator demands operating in a fast-paced, high-stakes trading environment where workload varies based on market events, operational incidents, and required execution timings. Key attributes needed include flexibility, dependability, and excellent coordination among operations teams to ensure continuous business functioning.

Role Overview

We seek an energetic and driven Products Trading Operator to join our Asia Pacific Trading Operations team located in Singapore. Acting as the vital operational bridge between trading teams based in Singapore, Geneva, and Dubai, you will be central to facilitating smooth execution of commercial contracts and logistics optimization regionally.

Your responsibilities span managing complete operational workflows — from preparing commercial contracts to coordinating vessel scheduling, supervising storage and blending processes, and ensuring compliance with financial and operational standards. As a pivotal contact point for various internal and external parties, your contributions will support a team that handles more than 5,500 contracts each year and drives a business line with significant commercial and financial ramifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage logistics coordination for all sea and land loadings and discharges, proactively preventing and addressing hazardous situations.
  • Track and optimize the movement and scheduling of company-chartered vessels, including spot, COA, or time charter agreements.
  • Appoint critical service providers such as independent inspectors, loss controllers, and additive suppliers, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Oversee storage and processing contracts, monitoring quantities, quality, financial exposures, and customs compliance.
  • Identify operational issues promptly and coordinate resolution with stakeholders to mitigate company costs and impacts.
  • Secure financial guarantees from counterparties, reviewing and modifying them in collaboration with the Credit department prior to cargo loading/unloading.
  • Assess transactional costs and communicate operational data affecting trading outcomes, including prices, hedges, freight, and currency.
  • Validate the feasibility and consistency of trading negotiations and formalize commercial contracts.
  • File damage reports with insurers and manage claims processing.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements such as REACH, Customs, and VAT, working alongside relevant support teams.
  • Comply with vetting procedures for seagoing vessels and barges.
  • Follow applicable corporate policies on health, safety, environment, business integrity, and conduct standards consistently.
  • Control invoicing, payment processing, and fund recovery as applicable.
  • Where relevant, manage and optimize equity lifting through deep understanding of lifting agreements and terminal procedures, including availability and payment quantities.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, combined with a minimum of 6 years in physical trading operations.
  • Proven capability to independently manage end-to-end trade execution processes.
  • Experience or knowledge in blending operations is preferred; demonstrates teamwork and initiative.
  • Keen interest and curiosity about the energy and trading sectors, with openness to continual learning.
  • Enjoys tackling challenges and exhibits strong dedication and adaptability.
  • Possesses good commercial intuition, a solution-focused mindset, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of thriving under tight deadlines in a complex, dynamic setting.
  • Proactively seeks self-improvement opportunities and pioneers new ideas or methods.
  • Exhibits strong learning agility, particularly in adopting new technologies and processes.
  • Fluent in English and an additional language such as Mandarin.
