Role Overview
As a Product Designer, you will tackle the challenge of uniting the needs of students, teachers, and administrators within a single product. Students desire personalized, on-demand guidance that supports their learning journey without simply giving answers. Teachers want this interaction while maintaining control of their classrooms and reclaiming their evenings. Administrators require validated evidence that the platform enhances both teacher effectiveness and student progress.
Work Environment
- Operate within a fast-paced, close-knit team consisting of a Product Lead, Chief of Staff for Product, CTO, and five engineers.
- Prioritize getting rapid, functional prototypes to teachers for early feedback, enabling impactful decisions often made within days rather than prolonged sprints.
- Engage continuously in team and market learning with dedicated channels for sharing successes and challenges.
- User-centered design decisions, leveraging direct feedback from diverse stakeholders including teachers, students, and administrators.
- Utilize AI as an aid in designing—from lo-fi concepts to prototype creation and product requirement drafting—keeping development cycles short.
Responsibilities
- Deeply research and validate user objectives, map essential workflows, and uncover fundamental user needs beyond surface solutions.
- Generate multiple concepts (typically 5-6) for complex user interfaces through sketches, wireframes, AI-generated prototypes, and thorough competitor and industry analysis, then narrow choices with team and user input.
- Design both new features from inception and enhance existing products for scalability and user delight.
- Effectively communicate design choices, intents, and reasoning to team members.
- Establish design standards, determining recurring patterns versus one-offs, contributing to the evolving design system and philosophy.
- Participate through quality assurance stages and evaluate metrics to measure feature success post-launch.
- Impact the education of hundreds of thousands of learners at a critical moment for AI-enhanced learning tools.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing and shipping tangible software products, emphasizing depth over breadth of contributions.
- Ability to manage the full design lifecycle from problem definition to delivering detailed specifications for engineering.
- Comfort with a scrappy, iterative approach prioritizing real user feedback over internal polish.
- Passion for innovating and shaping category-defining education products rather than incremental improvements to existing platforms.
- Enthusiasm for learning continuously, including development of design skills and deep understanding of the education sector, from US K–12 private systems to global education ministries.
- Strong personal interest in contributing to education and its improvement through design.
Benefits
- Meaningful equity participation.
- Health and dental insurance coverage.
- Allowance for personal device expenses.
