Role Purpose
The Planner role focuses on defining and preparing the detailed requirements for approved work, ensuring that all necessary resources are allocated ahead of commencement to enable safe and efficient work execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply stringent safety and health principles at all times, taking personal accountability for own and others' safety to achieve zero harm.
- Translate asset strategies from Reliability Engineers into detailed and effective maintenance plans with clearly defined tasks, sequencing, resource needs, and job durations.
- Continuously validate and refine maintenance plans for accuracy, including BOMs, components, and part numbers.
- Develop new asset maintenance plans in SAP prior to site commissioning.
- Review tactical PM03/PM15 work orders thoroughly to ensure standards are met before release, checking all technical details and safety instructions.
- Maintain and close out tactical work orders executed outside schedules as urgent work, adhering to mine standards and ensuring SAP records are up to date daily.
- Coordinate changes to tactical work orders with the Reliability department and manage communications through proper change management.
- Handle ad hoc PM01 orders by capturing notifications, monitoring open statuses, converting approved notifications to PM Orders for planning, and escalating unresolved issues promptly.
- Use daily Task Status Reports to prioritize planning, update work centre capacities, complete job cards, and actively engage in management routines to ensure work order completion aligns with business timelines.
- Plan and sequence work orders daily, ensuring hazard identification, control measures, permits, and procedures comply with guidelines.
- Specify required labour, materials, tools, equipment, and contracts clearly and in a timely fashion; manage and escalate cost overruns for approvals.
- Schedule tasks according to prescribed plans, ensure adherence to start dates, timely release of work orders, and facilitate thorough job tracking.
- Analyse planning trends regularly and recommend improvements, securing necessary approvals for template updates.
- Ensure all work orders are completed, confirmed, and properly filed in SAP per business requirements.
- Participate in weekly schedule draft and review meetings as part of managerial duties.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12/N3 Technical certificate.
- NQF5 Higher National Qualification; NQF6 National Diploma preferred.
- Trade Certificate in an Engineering discipline.
- Valid South African Driver's Licence.
- Between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in mining operations.
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of key drivers in the discipline value chain and the interdependencies involved.
- Knowledge of operational process classifications within an Operating Model focused on Work Management.
- Familiarity with real-time problem-solving methodologies.
- Acumen in business and commercial aspects influencing scheduling and operations.
- Expertise in Operational Risk Management and critical control measures.
- Strong awareness of safety, health, environmental, legal, and regulatory compliance requirements.
