Role overview
The Base Maintenance Manager will oversee base maintenance work in a way that keeps operations safe, compliant, and efficient under the company’s EASA Part-145 approval. The position is responsible for making sure maintenance is planned, supervised, and completed in line with approved technical data, regulatory obligations, internal procedures, and required safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Direct engineers across the IAC 145 facilities to coordinate and control base and line maintenance activity within the scope of approval, while ensuring enough people and resources are available in cooperation with Paint, Sales, and other relevant teams.
- Oversee audits and non-conformance matters, and support Customer and IAC quality teams with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions in a prompt and effective manner.
- Make sure all work complies with EASA, UK, and any other applicable authority requirements.
- Encourage safe working habits in line with health and safety policy.
- Give constructive performance feedback, support skill development where needed, and address performance concerns when they arise.
- Ensure aircraft issues are ranked appropriately within the team and maintain a strong sense of urgency for critical tasks.
- Support performance management and team development, including approvals and training completion.
- Work with HR on employee attendance, conduct, discipline, and performance management.
- Build and strengthen a reporting and SMS culture within the team, including change management and risk assessment practices.
- Apply working knowledge of EASA, UK, and other IAC approval authority procedures and requirements.
Qualifications and experience
The successful candidate should hold a current EASA Part-66 licence or an equivalent third-level qualification. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a base maintenance environment is required, along with experience managing large teams that must deliver a safe and dependable service to operations. A solid understanding of maintenance operations, including manpower, facilities, and training requirements, is also expected.
Skills and competencies
This role calls for someone who can motivate, delegate, negotiate, and work collaboratively with teams. Strong integrity, excellent organisational ability, sound judgment, and a clear sense of ownership are important. The manager should also have a proven ability to lead teams in a fast-changing environment, along with project management experience, familiarity with aircraft maintenance systems such as Airbus World and Boeing online tools, and good computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and similar applications.
