About the Role
We seek a versatile Maintenance Operative skilled across various trades, based in Birmingham at James House on-site, to join SCC, Europe's largest privately-owned IT company. This permanent position offers a salary between £30,500 and £31,500, supplemented by extensive employee benefits including flexible schemes and two paid volunteering days annually. The role operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM with a two-stage interview process.
Role Purpose
The core aim is to support daily maintenance, repair, and servicing activities across the organisation's facilities. The ideal candidate possesses robust general labouring abilities and basic plumbing competence to execute diverse maintenance and repair duties essential to property upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Quickly respond to reactive maintenance calls, diagnosing problems and executing repairs efficiently within specified Service Level Agreements.
- Manage plumbing issues through inspection and fault-finding, ensuring availability of necessary spare parts and materials.
- Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) tasks as directed, including water safety checks like temperature monitoring and sampling.
- Maintain thorough and timely documentation for all maintenance work, adhering to statutory, health, safety, and company policies.
- Engage in varied trade duties including basic electrical tasks, mechanical work, furniture and office relocations, and routine building inspections.
- Handle plumbing system maintenance, such as servicing boilers, showers, sanitary fittings, unblocking drains, and emergency repairs as needed.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols, proper use of PPE, and maintain valid personal risk assessments ensuring a secure work environment.
- Deliver strong customer service by professionally managing inquiries from colleagues and coordinating with teams and supervisors.
- Commit to ongoing training and contribute ideas to enhance maintenance processes and safety standards.
Required Skills and Experience
- Relevant technical qualifications such as City & Guilds with a solid background in property maintenance and general repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve faults efficiently, with experience across multiple trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building repairs.
- Possession of a full UK driving licence and willingness to apply for necessary security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Gas Safe registration, IPAF and PASMA certificates for working at heights.
- Health and Safety certifications like NEBOSH or IOSH.
- Proficiency with computers for accurate documentation and a customer-focused communication style.
