Job Summary

The Operator role involves maneuvering a variety of heavy machinery and trucks to facilitate different construction tasks such as road building, excavation, flood control, and installation of utilities. Operators will handle equipment including cranes, bulldozers, graders, excavators, pavers, compactors, loaders, rollers, scrapers, and others essential to construction sites. The work season generally spans from April to November due to its outdoor nature.

Key Duties

• Operate trucks of multiple sizes for transporting equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Control construction machinery including backhoes, excavators, snowplows, road graders, sweepers, and various power tools.
• Perform tasks like ditch digging, hoisting materials and tools, and assisting line crews.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, reporting issues appropriately.
• Support the installation and upkeep of traffic control apparatus.
• Serve as ground support for line crews when directed.
• Wear all required personal protective gear while working.
• Additional duties related to heavy equipment operation as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• The role involves exposure to varying outdoor weather, noise, dust, and working near heavy equipment and traffic.
• Operators may work at heights up to 50 feet and trench depths to 80 feet.
• Physical tasks include climbing ladders, maneuvering across uneven terrain, sitting for prolonged periods during equipment operation, and handling controls frequently.
• Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds regularly is required.
• Vision capabilities including close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, and depth perception are necessary.
• Workers will be subject to high noise levels regularly.
