Position Overview
Veolia is seeking a dedicated Meter Reader to join their team on a permanent basis in the Limerick area and surrounding Munster counties. The role entails travelling within a designated region to collect water consumption data for our client through manual and automated reading systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate vehicles following assigned routes to gather consumption readings using walk-by, drive-by, and manual methods.
- Utilize an Android tablet for route navigation and strategically plan daily routes for efficiency.
- Read water meters and input data into handheld devices accurately.
- If unable to obtain a meter reading, select an appropriate skip reason from a preset list.
- Document any on-site problems, including photographic records.
- Ensure timely data uploads so that project managers and clients can track progress effectively.
- Report meter irregularities, access issues, and network concerns via handheld devices.
- Communicate maintenance or equipment problems promptly to Veolia’s Project Manager and the Meter Data Management Service Provider.
- Direct customers to the Uisce Eireann Customer Service Centre for billing inquiries.
- Update GPS locations to enhance the network’s accuracy and efficiency.
- Conduct manual readings for non-domestic meters where automated reading is unavailable.
- Comply with health, safety, and performance management protocols, including using the Ava safety reporting platform for incidents or near misses.
- Use provided tools to open boundary boxes, pump out chambers, and read meters safely.
- Perform readings on bulk meters collaboratively with a second team member using safety lifting keys.
- Consistently meet client deadlines and key performance indicators, maintaining daily and quarterly reading targets.
- Contribute to continuous project improvement by addressing inefficiencies and reporting issues promptly.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Possession of a full clean driver’s license; commercial driving experience is beneficial.
- Familiarity with water network management or basic plumbing experience is preferable.
- Proven IT competency to operate tablets, handheld devices, and GPS equipment; training will be provided.
- Strong organizational and route planning abilities to optimize daily work schedules.
- Effective time management skills to fulfill client requirements and meet KPIs.
- Comprehensive understanding of safety practices applicable to metering services.
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive, innovative, and team-oriented attitude.
