Job description
Overview
The Merchandise Manager position at Michaels in Orillia, ON, leads merchandising and operational activities including truck processing, inventory management, planogram execution, and maintaining store visual standards. The role is key in ensuring pricing accuracy, on-time promotional rollouts, and a store environment ready for customers by effectively planning workload and managing inventory.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Store Manager in enforcing Standard Operating Procedures and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Enforce company policies and uphold store standards, holding team members accountable for store performance and conditions.
- Provide Manager-on-Duty coverage by leading the sales floor, maintaining service excellence, and ensuring operational consistency.
- Lead unloading and sorting of merchandise from trucks, facilitating smooth flow to the sales floor.
- Plan workload and daily priorities, coordinating with store leadership to align staff resources with business demands.
- Manage Store-In-Stock Optimization routines to maintain stock levels, replenish accurately, and ensure sales readiness.
- Supervise planogram implementation ensuring displays are precisely and timely set according to company standards.
- Maintain visual merchandising quality including product placement and presentation to meet company expectations.
- Ensure the store and backroom remain clean, organized, and prepared for customers, including recovery of sales floor.
- Oversee inventory control practices ensuring product accuracy, integrity, and effective stock turnover.
- Implement promotional setups and verify signage and product placements align with promotional standards and customer focus.
- Accurately and timely manage pricing updates to maintain pricing integrity throughout the store and systems.
- Coordinate Ship from Store order fulfillment ensuring efficient and precise picking, packing, and shipping.
- Handle Return to Vendor processing and ASN receiving, maintaining compliance, documentation accuracy, and proper inventory updates.
- Manage store damage procedures to properly address product issues and reduce inventory shrinkage.
- Train and develop team members through structured onboarding and ongoing skills enhancement across departments.
- Collaborate on asset protection initiatives to minimize shrinkage through compliance, safety, and awareness.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Experience and Physical Requirements
- Minimum 3 years in retail leadership roles.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move freely throughout the store.
- Perform regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching activities.
- Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling merchandise and fixtures weighing between 25-50 pounds, with or without accommodation.
- Comfortable climbing ladders or step stools to stock and retrieve items.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as scanning, stocking shelves, and using POS equipment.
- Adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent customer interaction.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and early mornings as required.

Compensation and Benefits
