Role Summary

The MEP Network Engineer role primarily centers on the integration between external utility networks and the building-level MEP systems within a large phased Design & Build project on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Positioned within the utilities team, this role involves reviewing and validating MEP design submissions related to connections from building services to external utility infrastructures managed by the Senior Utilities Network Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Examine internal plumbing and sanitary designs to ensure appropriate connection, sizing, and pressure compatibility with the external potable water network provided by ADDC.
• Evaluate cold/hot water distribution, booster pump systems, and storage tank sizing against external water supply parameters.
• Verify alignment of internal irrigation distribution systems with external irrigation networks.
• Review LV electrical distribution elements including distribution boards, cable sizes, and metering setups to confirm proper links to external ADDC LV networks.
• Assess internal earthing, bonding, and lightning protection designs for adherence to ADDC and regulatory standards.
• Check fire fighting systems such as sprinklers, hydrants, and FM200 setups for correct integration with potable water supplies and fire authority standards.
• Review mechanical provisions including building-level pumping, booster, and pressurisation systems connected to utility feeds.
• Ensure complete coordination between internal MEP systems and external utility capacities, pressures, and connection points.
• Identify and report any design inconsistencies or interface issues, preparing technical comments for consultant remediation.
• Update and maintain MEP design submission records and review trackers.
• Collaborate with the Senior Utilities Network Engineer to size and specify building MEP systems accurately in relation to external network parameters.
• Highlight and resolve discrepancies between external utility designs and internal MEP requirements with consulting teams.
• Support BIM/3D coordination exercises to ensure clash-free integration of MEP systems with architectural and structural elements.
• Assist with preparation and submission of MEP packages to Abu Dhabi authorities including ADDC, ADSSC, Civil Defence, DM, and TASAREEH.
• Track and coordinate responses to authority comments on submissions for approvals and NOCs.
• Maintain updated knowledge of local MEP codes, connection standards, fire safety, and approval procedures.
• Review shop drawings, equipment sheets, contractor submittals, and method statements during construction phases.
• Resolve construction phase technical queries related to MEP-utility interfaces and conduct site visits to confirm installation compliance.
• Support commissioning and testing activities for systems tied to external utilities.
• Document MEP design reviews, meeting outcomes, and escalate unresolved technical matters appropriately.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related MEP field is required.
• Membership or pursuit thereof in recognized professional bodies such as IMechE, IET, or CIBSE is beneficial.
• At least 4 years of UAE-based MEP engineering experience focused on building services connected to external utilities.
• Proven experience reviewing plumbing, LV electrical, and fire fighting designs in residential or mixed-use developments within Abu Dhabi preferred.
• Good understanding of external utility parameters such as water pressure, LV supply, and ADDC standards is essential.
• Familiarity with Civil Defence, ADSSC, and ADDC regulatory requirements and approvals is advantageous.
• Exposure to Design & Build projects and Yas Island-specific developments is highly desirable.

Technical Expertise

• Proficiency in AutoCAD for design review and markup is mandatory.
• Ability to interpret complex MEP drawings, system diagrams, riser charts, and load calculations.
• Knowledge of hydraulic calculations relevant to internal water and fire fighting systems.
• Experience with BIM/Revit coordination and clash detection tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with Abu Dhabi MEP codes, UAE Fire & Life Safety codes, and Civil Defence requirements.
• Competence in document control and Microsoft Office applications.

• Valid UAE driving license is mandatory.
• Fluent written and spoken English required; Arabic language skills advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on design accuracy and interface coordination.
