Medical Laboratory Technician

Overview

French Consulting invites candidates to join our team at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany. This full-time position begins in October 2026, with working hours from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, five days a week, and occasional weekend shifts once a month. Schedules are released by the 15th of the previous month.

Role Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician conducts a comprehensive suite of clinical laboratory tests including chemistry, cytology, molecular biology, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood bank services to support patient care and infectious disease monitoring. This role includes performing molecular biology and PCR diagnostic tests, maintaining quality control and management compliance, and contributing to disease surveillance reporting at the facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute various laboratory tests across multiple specializations as detailed in the task order.
• Assess specimen suitability and prepare samples while preserving their physiological integrity.
• Prepare reagents and primary reference materials, calibrate and maintain equipment, and perform routine instrument checks and minor repairs.
• Diagnose instrument malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
• Gather and convert analytical data for accurate reporting.
• Perform strict quality control on equipment, reagents, and test products and keep detailed QC/QA records.
• Prepare specimens for transport or mailing and manage biological waste disposal safely.
• Conduct advanced molecular techniques including nucleic acid extraction, PCR amplification, real-time PCR, DNA sequencing, and pathogen detection for various infectious agents.
• Accurately enter patient test results into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring completeness and data integrity.
• Adhere to all quality management and safety protocols, complete requisite training, and participate in ongoing education.
• Assist in certification processes, review and update standard operating procedures, and provide weekly epidemiological disease surveillance reports.
• Support training for satellite clinics and manage related budget tracking and specimen surveys.

Administrative and Compliance Duties

• Maintain compliance with regulations set by CAP, TJC, CLIA, and adherence to OSHA and German safety standards.
• Ensure 100% proficiency in CAP testing and accurate data entry in LIS.

Qualifications and Skills

• Possession of a certificate from an accredited medical laboratory technician program (NAACLS or ABHES accredited, or AMT recognized program).
• Certification and registration per ASCP or AMT standards as required by the task order.
• At least two years of clinical laboratory technician experience within the last five years, demonstrating proficiency in both standard and molecular infectious disease testing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong technical expertise in molecular biology, PCR, and infectious disease diagnostic testing.
