Position Overview
The New Programs Engineering Prototype team at Tesla is dedicated to pioneering front-end vehicle design by fabricating early-stage prototype vehicles. These prototypes enable rapid identification and mitigation of risks during the initial stages of program development. The Mechanical Integration Engineer will play a crucial role in guiding mechanical integration efforts, overseeing a variety of prototype projects from the initial design phases through to build completion. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of vehicle systems and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple design and engineering teams to develop functional prototypes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the management of principal product CAD models and Bills of Materials (BOM), ensuring completion and compatibility by adhering to recognized best practices and supporting release workflows.
- Lead integration review meetings, resolving packaging constraints to align design solutions with the prototype vehicle's performance and attribute objectives.
- Coordinate the build stages of prototype vehicles, including formulating build schedules, supervising the build process, and maintaining thorough build documentation.
- Determine tooling requirements and design custom tooling to facilitate prototype vehicle construction.
- Provide support to fabricators and technicians by troubleshooting and resolving issues arising during prototype assembly.
Candidate Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities paired with excellent communication skills.
- Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and deliver within stringent timelines.
- Keen attention to detail combined with proficiency in documentation and reporting.
- In-depth knowledge of design principles that support the development of functional mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with part fabrication and large assembly manufacturing techniques.
- Exceptional skills in design, packaging, and 3D modeling; prior experience with CATIA software is advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this role is $91,600 to $195,600, supplemented by cash incentives, stock awards, and a comprehensive benefits package effective from day one of employment. Benefits include multiple medical plan options with zero payroll deductions, family-building support including fertility and adoption assistance, dental and vision coverage, health savings account contributions, flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, employee stock purchase programs, life and disability insurance, employee assistance programs, paid time off including sick leave, vacation, and holidays, childcare and parenting support services, a range of voluntary insurance plans, wellness programs including tobacco cessation, commuter benefits, and employee discounts.
