About the Company
Elmec Technopac Machineries is a renowned manufacturer specializing in special-purpose machines (SPM) and automation systems, emphasizing packaging equipment for sectors like FMCG, Pharma, Food & Beverage, and Consumer Goods. Their machines are designed and produced internally, covering the entire process from concept creation to commissioning, and are utilized by customers throughout India and worldwide.
Role Overview
The Design Engineer role involves complete ownership of the mechanical design lifecycle for packaging machinery and automation systems - from initial idea and feasibility studies through detailed design, fabrication support, assembly, and on-site commissioning assistance. This position demands active involvement with both design conception and production troubleshooting to enhance machine performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret customer needs regarding product type, output rate, layout constraints, and utilities to create viable machine concepts and layouts.
- Assess various driving mechanisms such as cam-driven, servo-driven, and pneumatic options based on cost, cycle time, and manufacturability.
- Produce concept sketches, GA layouts, and timing diagrams for internal evaluation and client approval.
- Engage in multidisciplinary design reviews involving electrical, automation, procurement, and production teams prior to finalizing designs.
- Create detailed 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks and develop 2D manufacturing and GA drawings with GD&T, tolerances, and BOMs in AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Conduct fundamental engineering calculations, select standard components per vendor catalogs, and maintain documentation following ISO and quality standards.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams during fabrication and assembly to ensure adherence to design intent and promptly correct any deviations.
- Support procurement with technical clarifications and partake in trial runs before machine dispatch.
- Provide troubleshooting assistance during on-site machine commissioning and analyze recurring issues to propose design improvements.
- Implement value engineering and cost optimization efforts without sacrificing safety or functionality, and standardize sub-assemblies to expedite production.
- Keep abreast of industry trends in packaging automation, motion control, and relevant safety regulations.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma, B.E., or B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 3 to 8 years of experience designing special purpose machines, packaging machinery, or automation systems in manufacturing environments.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assembly, sheet metal, drawings) and AutoCAD (2D detailing and GA drawings).
- Good understanding of mechanisms (cams, gears, linkages), GD&T principles, and experience with pneumatics and standard machine elements.
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, machining, and welding related to machine structures.
- Ability to independently convert customer specifications into engineering outputs and work on shop floor and field sites when required.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet project deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in packaging machinery domains like cartoning, case packing, form-fill-seal, labeling, palletizing, or filling/capping.
- Basic knowledge of PLC/HMI automation to liaise effectively with electrical design teams.
- Exposure to finite element analysis and simulation tools.
Performance Metrics
- Timely delivery of design outputs aligned with project timelines.
- Minimization of design rework and changes after release.
- Reduction in field breakdowns and complaints linked to design issues.
- Quick response to design queries during fabrication and field commissioning.
Compensation and Location
The monthly salary ranges from INR 25,000 to INR 45,000. The position is based onsite at Peenya 2nd Stage, Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, permanent role reporting directly to the CEO within the Design & Engineering department. The candidate must be willing to spend time on the shop floor and travel to customer locations for commissioning and troubleshooting support as needed.
Employment Benefits
Working at Elmec Technopac offers exposure to complete machine-building projects from initial design through deployment, opportunities to work across diverse packaging technologies and industries, and a collaborative environment granting visibility into product performance.
