Role Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Maintenance Technician to join our Estates & Facilities team. This full-time, permanent position involves working a standard 37-hour week at our College sites to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks across multiple sites independently or collaboratively.
- Execute both planned and reactive repairs involving various building services.
- Conduct multi-skilled duties including carpentry, basic plumbing, and general building upkeep.
- Maintain and fix doors, windows, furniture, and other non-technical equipment.
- Support minor installation projects within your technical capabilities.
- Assist with maintenance of water systems and handle leakage or blockage issues.
- Ensure the building fabric complies with safety standards and is fit for use.
- Accurately record maintenance activities and keep maintenance systems up to date.
- Adhere strictly to COSHH, health and safety, and safeguarding guidelines.
- Contribute to maintaining a professional, compliant, and well-managed estate environment.
Candidate Requirements
- GCSE qualifications in Maths and English at Grade 9–4 (A–C) or equivalent.
- Possession of a recognised trade qualification such as City & Guilds or an equivalent.
- Previous practical experience in maintenance or facilities management roles.
- Strong expertise in general building maintenance, repairs, and multi-disciplinary skills including carpentry and plumbing.
- Good knowledge of health & safety and regulatory compliance.
- Effective fault diagnosis and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
- Ability to work independently with good workload management.
- Basic proficiency in IT for reporting and record management.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience working in multi-site or large organizational environments.
- Understanding of water hygiene and legionella control.
- Certifications or experience related to Working at Height (such as PASMA or IPAF).
- Previous work experience within educational or public sectors.
- Health & Safety qualifications, e.g., IOSH.
