Maintenance Technician

Role Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Maintenance Technician to join our Estates & Facilities team. This full-time, permanent position involves working a standard 37-hour week at our College sites to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance tasks across multiple sites independently or collaboratively.
• Execute both planned and reactive repairs involving various building services.
• Conduct multi-skilled duties including carpentry, basic plumbing, and general building upkeep.
• Maintain and fix doors, windows, furniture, and other non-technical equipment.
• Support minor installation projects within your technical capabilities.
• Assist with maintenance of water systems and handle leakage or blockage issues.
• Ensure the building fabric complies with safety standards and is fit for use.
• Accurately record maintenance activities and keep maintenance systems up to date.
• Adhere strictly to COSHH, health and safety, and safeguarding guidelines.
• Contribute to maintaining a professional, compliant, and well-managed estate environment.

Candidate Requirements

• GCSE qualifications in Maths and English at Grade 9–4 (A–C) or equivalent.
• Possession of a recognised trade qualification such as City & Guilds or an equivalent.
• Previous practical experience in maintenance or facilities management roles.
• Strong expertise in general building maintenance, repairs, and multi-disciplinary skills including carpentry and plumbing.
• Good knowledge of health & safety and regulatory compliance.
• Effective fault diagnosis and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
• Ability to work independently with good workload management.
• Basic proficiency in IT for reporting and record management.

Desirable Attributes

• Experience working in multi-site or large organizational environments.
• Understanding of water hygiene and legionella control.
• Certifications or experience related to Working at Height (such as PASMA or IPAF).
• Previous work experience within educational or public sectors.
• Health & Safety qualifications, e.g., IOSH.
