About the Role
Women’s Environmental Leadership Australia (WELA) is transforming leadership within Australia's climate and environmental movements by empowering women and gender-diverse changemakers. For nearly ten years, WELA has supported these leaders to build confidence, skills, networks, and support systems to create significant community impact. Rooted in feminist leadership and environmental justice, WELA recognizes the climate crisis as fundamentally a leadership challenge.
In partnership with Ripple Opportunities, WELA is seeking a Leadership Programs Director to join their passionate national team. This role offers the chance to shape leadership development that influences climate and environmental action across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and cultivate a high-performing programs team, ensuring clarity in roles, strong operational routines, and accountability.
- Enhance program quality, delivery, and outcomes across WELA’s diverse leadership initiatives, including flagship national leadership programs, specialist intensives, and place-based projects.
- Develop and expand strategic partnerships and revenue channels to support organizational growth and sustainability.
- Collaborate with the executive team to provide organizational vision and thoughtful leadership that guides long-term growth and decision-making.
Work Environment and Style
The role involves remote work with a small, values-driven and integrity-focused team committed to flexible, family-friendly, and sustainable work practices. Collaboration and personal accountability are key, alongside supporting ongoing professional growth and collective success.
Expect some after-hours duties and occasional domestic travel. Applicants should provide their own laptop and phone.
Your Profile
- Demonstrated people leadership abilities and organizational judgement, ideally gained through experience in nonprofit, social enterprise, leadership development, education, or similar fields.
- Deep understanding of leadership development with a values-aligned approach focused on systems change.
- Operational expertise to support sustainable organizational growth, including team performance, program excellence, financial oversight, partnership cultivation, and revenue generation.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive leadership style that encourages reflection, problem solving, and accountability.
Additional Information
- Employment will be full-time or 0.8 FTE for the right candidate, with a salary of $135,000 plus superannuation (pro-rated for 0.8 FTE).
- Preferred locations include Eora/Sydney, Naarm/Melbourne, or Meanjin/Brisbane, though the position supports remote working arrangements.
