Laboratory Technician - Maternity Cover (Starting August 2026)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to provide maternity cover starting August 2026. This role requires upholding the high standards and values of the organisation while maintaining efficient laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to and promote the core values and standards of excellence upheld by the organisation.
• Maintain and regularly update registers for laboratory equipment, chemicals, and consumable materials.
• Collaborate with the Head of Science and science educators to prepare experiments and practical sessions.
• Ensure the laboratories remain clean and well-organised in partnership with relevant staff members.
• Report any damaged or broken equipment promptly to the Head of Science.
• Implement and oversee safety protocols within the laboratories alongside department colleagues.
• Assist in compiling an annual inventory list of consumables, glassware, and other equipment.
• Ensure laboratories are securely locked when not in use.
• Comply with all institutional policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
• Demonstrate initiative by dedicating effort beyond normal working hours when tasks require additional attention.
• Participate actively in staff meetings and contribute to committees as assigned.
• Carry out additional duties as directed by supervisors or reporting managers.

Requirements

• A degree in a Science discipline is required.
• Minimum one year of experience in a laboratory technician or similar role.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with staff and students.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational capabilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
