Position Overview
This role involves preparing breakfast and lunch items, supporting serving lines, and occasionally assisting with catering events. Kitchen staff perform various duties throughout the kitchen environment to ensure smooth food service operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up serving lines each day, ensuring all meals are kept at proper temperatures and milk coolers are stocked.
- Prepare menu items according to plans and company recipes, including advance preparation for upcoming menus.
- Use certified kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, and grinders properly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in workspaces and cafeteria areas, including kitchen equipment and dishwashing stations.
- Organize and monitor inventory, applying First In/First Out (FIFO) methods and ensuring storage areas are clean.
- Prepare baked goods like bread, cakes, and cookies attractively as per menu requirements.
- Perform batch cooking to ensure consistent quality and presentation of food.
- Restock serving lines with necessary food items, utensils, napkins, and dishes, serving customers courteously.
- Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations including HACCP guidelines and keep detailed temperature and production records.
- Adhere to safety rules and promptly report unsafe conditions.
- Participate actively in safety programs, training sessions, and meetings as mandated.
- Handle customer transactions accurately when required, using cash registers or computerized POS systems while ensuring compliance with meal reimbursement policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of meal counts, work hours, and reconcile meal service records daily.
- Notify supervisors in advance if unable to cover shifts, and promptly in emergencies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Physical and Work Environment Demands
- Job requires frequent physical activity including standing, walking, climbing, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally over 60 pounds.
- Vision requirements include concentration, depth perception, color discrimination, and focusing abilities.
- Work environment includes indoor and outdoor settings, exposure to moving machinery, varying temperatures, loud noise, and occasionally toxic chemicals.
Educational and Skill Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is preferred; alternatively, up to one month of relevant experience or training may be accepted.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills sufficient to follow instructions, perform calculations, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to apply common sense and problem-solving skills for routine tasks.
- Familiarity with kitchen tools and equipment including dishwasher, ovens, mixers, slicers, as well as office devices like computers and calculators.
