About the Role

Join the vibrant and fast-moving team at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, located on the Tsuut’ina First Nation in Calgary, Alberta. As a Kitchen Helper, you will play an essential part in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the food service area, supporting the kitchen staff under the guidance of the Executive Chef and other culinary supervisors. This role focuses on cleaning dishware, pots, pans, and utensils, ensuring all kitchen areas and equipment meet strict health and safety standards in a dynamic hospitality environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate commercial dishwashing and sanitation machines, including pre-washing and scrubbing of kitchenware.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, floors, walls, and work surfaces by performing sweeping, mopping, and wiping down tasks.
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of cleaned items for accessible use by kitchen staff.
  • Keep dishwashing machines clean by clearing drains and filters and monitoring chemical levels for sanitation.
  • Handle trash disposal securely and maintain a tidy dishwashing area.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, including AGLC, Casino policies, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and WHMIS standards.
  • Report any hazardous conditions, defective equipment, or safety breaches promptly.
  • Develop positive working relationships with coworkers and customers.
  • Attend safety training sessions and apply learned practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Basic understanding of food service environments and sanitation requirements.
  • Previous related experience is beneficial but not mandatory as training is provided.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team and also independently when required.
  • Attention to detail and ability to function efficiently in a noisy, fast-paced workplace.
  • Capability to work physically demanding tasks including standing for long periods and repetitive motions.
  • Comfortable working amid kitchen heat, chemicals, and smoking areas.
  • Ability to mentor and train new employees is a plus.

Additional Information

  • The position requires physical fitness to bend, kneel, lift heavy items, and maintain sanitation standards consistently.
  • Shift work availability is essential.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who are members of the Tsuut’ina Nation.
