It serves as a launching pad for many journalists advancing to national and international platforms.
Role Overview
We are seeking a junior journalist to join our Penrith office team. This position emphasizes community-focused storytelling with additional coverage in general news and entertainment. The successful candidate will contribute content for both print and digital platforms, mainly concentrating on the print edition. Familiarity with the Penrith area and a broad understanding of current news is advantageous. The role also involves producing short-form video and social media content when needed.
Responsibilities
- Create compelling stories focused on community events, general news, and entertainment.
- Write accurate and engaging articles for both print and digital editions.
- Develop fresh story ideas and angles through research and news monitoring.
- Meet strict deadlines with quality output.
- Work collaboratively within a team while also maintaining the ability to operate independently.
- Produce short-form video content for social media platforms if required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Ability to generate original story ideas and conduct thorough research.
- Commitment to delivering news on tight schedules.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and enthusiasm for journalism.
- Genuine interest in local, state, and national news cycles.
- Familiarity with the Penrith community and key local figures is preferred.
- Capability in creating short video reels or similar social content is advantageous.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a car is mandatory.
Additional Information
This is a full-time position, open to candidates of all experience levels, including recent graduates and junior journalists. The role entails scheduled on-site work based in Penrith.
