About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Junior Database Administrator to join the Technology team. This opportunity is well-suited to fresh graduates and early-stage professionals who want to build a career in databases, information management, and enterprise systems.
In this position, you will help look after organisational databases, keeping them reliable, secure, and available. You will learn from experienced database specialists while building hands-on exposure to administration tasks, backup and recovery processes, performance checks, and issue resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the upkeep and monitoring of SQL databases and database servers.
- Carry out regular backup, recovery, and maintenance tasks.
- Track database performance and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
- Help manage user access, permissions, and overall database security.
- Investigate database issues and assist in resolving incidents with guidance.
- Work with developers on database structure and query optimisation.
- Update database records, documentation, and operating procedures.
- Assist with upgrades, migrations, and patch deployment activities.
- Follow data governance rules and security requirements.
- Contribute to ongoing efforts to improve database reliability and performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a similar discipline.
- Foundational knowledge of relational database principles.
- Ability to write and understand SQL queries.
- Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle Database.
- Good analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Strong focus on accuracy and organisation.
- Interest in learning enterprise database platforms.
Preferred Skills
- Academic or personal projects involving database design or administration.
- Awareness of cloud-based databases on Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Understanding of backup and recovery fundamentals.
- Basic knowledge of database security and performance tuning.
- Exposure to Power BI or similar reporting tools.
- Microsoft SQL or Oracle certifications would be an advantage.
