John Otto Haas Molecular Ecologist

Position Overview

The John Otto Haas Molecular Ecologist will conduct research at Morris Arboretum & Gardens focusing on integrating field studies and herbarium collections with advanced resources from the Plant Science Laboratory. This position involves applying molecular biology techniques to study evolutionary patterns such as conservation genetics and functional genomics, spatial dynamics including landscape genetics and phylogeography, and community-level processes such as plant-animal interactions, plant microbiome relationships, and metagenomics or environmental DNA analysis.

Research and Collaboration

The successful candidate will disseminate findings via scientific publications and conference presentations. They will provide expert bioinformatics and analytical computing support within the department and actively foster collaborative research projects. Pursuit of independent funding through grant applications and strategic partnerships is expected.

Educational and Outreach Responsibilities

The role includes teaching assignments at the University of Pennsylvania and Morris Arboretum, alongside mentoring students, apprentices, interns, and volunteers. Effective engagement with professional peers and the public is essential, working closely with staff across the Plant Science and other related departments at Morris.
