Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a meticulous and analytical Information Governance Specialist to join our team in the United Arab Emirates. This position can be full-time or part-time and involves partnering with multiple departments such as IT, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Security to ensure the organization's information is effectively governed and safeguarded throughout its lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of information governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Support activities related to information classification, data retention, records management, and data lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with UAE data protection laws and company policies.
  • Manage information registers, retention schedules, data inventories, and governance documentation.
  • Assist with initiatives around data quality, metadata management, and information lifecycle.
  • Work with IT and cybersecurity teams to enhance security and access controls.
  • Prepare governance documentation and take part in internal and external audit processes.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and help update governance frameworks accordingly.
  • Provide guidance to staff on proper information handling and governance.
  • Identify and propose improvements for information management and internal processes.

Candidate Profile

  • Sound knowledge of information governance, data management, and regulatory compliance principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills paired with strong organizational capabilities and problem-solving talent.
  • Exceptional attention to detail along with solid documentation and communication skills.
  • Competency in managing confidential information responsibly.
  • Ability to operate independently or collaboratively in full-time or part-time roles.
  • Proactive, ethical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, IT, Computer Science, Business Administration, Law, or related disciplines.
  • Prior experience in information governance, data governance, compliance, or records management is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data privacy, retention methodologies, classification, and lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of frameworks such as ISO 27001, ISO 27701, COBIT, DAMA-DMBOK is advantageous.
  • Experience working with platforms like Microsoft Purview, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, ServiceNow is beneficial.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, CDMP, or IGP are a plus.
