Role overview

This position leads the HR agenda for the European cluster, spanning 24 countries and supporting approximately 17,000 employees. The role calls for a senior HR executive who can shape people strategy across varied regulatory and business environments while keeping it aligned with global priorities. The successful candidate will manage a team of Country HR Officers and partner closely with the European Cluster leader and business heads across Banking, Wealth, Services, and Markets. The role is based in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, with European Union locations considered.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct HR delivery across countries, ensuring advice, services, processes, and procedures meet a consistently high standard and that HR governance is delivered end to end.
  • Maintain strong controls and well-designed processes to anticipate, reduce, and manage functional and franchise risk.
  • Bring together HR priorities across countries while balancing business needs, geographic realities, and legal entity requirements.
  • Take part in executive-level strategic planning so workforce strategy supports wider business strategy.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on complex, sensitive, and senior-level people matters, including multi-year plans for engagement and talent.
  • Build effective plans for resourcing, mobility, development, succession, and retention for key leaders and critical roles across the cluster, influencing talent and performance decisions in the interest of the wider franchise.
  • Lead culture change, organization design, and post-merger change efforts, while supporting employee engagement, diversity initiatives, and a strong ethical culture.
  • Advise on staff-related matters as part of Country Cluster Management and serve as the main people-strategy interface for regulators, government bodies, unions, auditors, and the internal Board of Directors.
  • Evaluate risk carefully in all business decisions, protect the firm’s reputation, comply with laws, rules, policies, and ethical standards, and escalate and report control issues with transparency while ensuring accountability across the team.

Requirements

  • 10–15 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership position managing multiple countries or regions, ideally in banking or financial services.
  • Proven track record of building and executing strategic HR programs across different cultural and regulatory environments.
  • Strong capability in talent management, organizational development, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and HR operations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing abilities, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing a distributed HR team across geographies.
  • Strong knowledge of European labor laws and HR best practices, including in markets such as Ireland, Germany, and France.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; additional proficiency in European languages such as French or German is an advantage.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
  • Strong analytical thinking and experience using HR metrics to support business performance.
